When it ran, Claire’s inbox filled with letters from everywhere—women describing the small domestic ways they’d been edited out of themselves. Claire read as many as she could, letting the stories stack into something like solidarity.

One night a package arrived outside her door.

Inside was a framed print: the accidental test shot from Madeline’s wedding—the one Elaine hadn’t wanted. Claire turning with the bouquet, half in shadow, stepping toward herself before she knew she could.

On the back, a note from the wedding photographer:

Thought you should have the one they didn’t want. It was the best frame of the day.

Claire sat on the floor and laughed until she cried.
